Liz Gleason 3rd in 5000m at NCAA Div III Nationals

Williams College sophomore (and NNHS '04 grad) Liz Gleason placed 3rd in the 5000m run at the NCAA Div III National Championships held at St. Olaf's College in Northfield, Minnesota Saturday. Liz ran a personal best time of 17:09.76 and earned All-American status to go along with her All-American title in cross-country.

NNHS Hurdle Relay Team is 5th at NSIC

From NNHS Girls Coach Coach Joe Tranchita:

"Congrats to our 4x55 shuttle hurdle team of Leah Weisman, Morgan Faer, Vicki Marone and Alex Blenis, who became All-Americans by finishing 5th at the National Championships in NY yesterday. They won their heat with a time of 35.03 and were just .04 out of 4th."

NE Championships: Cailean Robinson Runs School Record 6.51 FAT!!

At the NE Championships, Newton North's Cailean Robinson capped a brilliant indoor season by finishing second overall (2nd in NE!!) to MA Champion Stephen Headley. Robinson's time in the preliminary round was 6.51, setting a new school record (Dan King ran 6.4 hand-timed, which converts to 6.64 electronic). In the finals, Robinson ran 6.54.

David Smith competed in the shot put and finsihed seventh with a throw of 53'.

Nick Van Niel is 20th in Boys Pentathlon

On Tuesday, Newton North's Nick Van Niel placed 20th out of 94 competitors in the MSTCA Boys Pentathlon.

Van Niel ran the hurdles in 8.8 seconds, high-jumped 1.65 (5'5"), long jumped 5.77 (18'11"), threw the shot 11.85 (38'10.5, the 4th best throw of the whole competition), and ran the 1000 in 3:12.17.
