Hard to believe that Carla Forbes would be able to top what she'd already accomplished this indoor season, but she did. On Saturday, the MA state champion in the long jump became the NIN champion in the triple jump, soaring 12.24 (40-02) on her final jump.
Once again, Forbes showed her clutch instincts. After beginning with two fouls, she hit 12.16 on her first legal jump, and that would have been good enough to win the competition.
The 12.24 is a NN school record, of course, and only half an inch off the national freshman record.
And by the way, congratulations to the Newton South girls sprint medley, which placed fourth to make the podium.

Congratulations to Carla Forbes!
Yesterday, NN freshman Madison Nadeau ran the Freshman 400 in a PR 60.38.
Carla is a perfect study in what it takes to be a champion. 1. She has the DNA; both brothers state champions and her mother a sprinter from Jamaica.2. Great family support from parents who had her in Joe's track club for many years. 3. Great coaching from JT, both in the club and at NN. Unbeatable combination.
I don't think it counts as a school record because NIN is, after all, a club meet.
NIN counts as a school record. Marks at NIN count as school records because the athl;etes who set them go to that school.
North's SMR time at NIN last year would've been a school record but since it was run under Waltham Track it doesn't count.
