Well, you were right that I would check in. This was in fact my third time running the event, with my first time being a 33:26 on our home track in a tiny meet to get a qualifying time for the NYSCTC meet. At the NYSCTC meet I ran just about as hard as i could to get the qualifying time for ECACs, so i wasn't sure how much faster i could go with 2 weeks more training. Apparently, 2 weeks made a huge difference as i was still coming back from an early season injury, and just recently got into shape. My outside goal for this race was 32:20, so I went out through 4k at that pace. unfortunately, everyone else went out way faster and I was being too conservative. I came through 5k in 16:14 and felt great, but everyone who was going to run in the low 32's was 50-60 meters ahead of me at that point. I had run the first 3 miles with one of Doug's teammates from Bates, but he faded and I was left all alone. The 10k is a really hard event to stay focused in, especially in the later miles, so as soon as i was alone I started running default 80 second quarters. I wanted to, and could have run much faster in the last 3 miles, but I was having a really hard time pushing myself with nobody around me. I finished with a 74 second last lap and wasn't nearly as tired as i should have been after a 10k. I'm always happy with a PR, especially when it feels so much easier than any other time i've run the event, but I'm definitely a little dissappointed that I didn't take a risk early on and go with the people who ended up scoring and running 32:20. I was seeded dead last in the race, and ended up finshing 11th out of 15 which was pretty cool. Can't wait to run another 10k!
