Mayanja Wins SP at Boys MSTCA Meet; Lichtman's 1000 is #3 NN AT

Newton North's Swardick Mayanja seems to have reached a new consistent level of excellence in the shot put. On Sunday, the NN junior won his event by half a foot at the MSTCA Boys Invitational meet (aka State Coaches Meet) with a toss of 53-6.75.

In the 1000, Ezra Lichtman placed 3rd in a stacked field (22 runners under 2:40!), running 2:32.25 behind Mansfield's sensational Josh Lampron (2:29.77) and Shrewsbury's two-time Footlocker finalist John Murray (2:31.77). According to NNHS historian Josh Seeherman, Lichtman's time makes him the third-fastest NN athlete all-time in the 1000. Not to be overlooked, Justin Keefe also ran well, finishing 19th in 2:38.65.

Isaiah Penn was North's other individual to place in the top six, running 36.24 out of the penultimate heat to place 5th in the 300.

In the deuce, Dan Ranti finished 8th in an indoor best time of 9:50.95.

North's 4x200 team (Ben Clark, Terrell Doyle, Ryan Lucken, and Penn) finished 2nd in the final heat and 3rd overall, running 1:32.80, just 0.17 behind New Bedford and Woburn.

Josh is right about the 100 times-Barnicle, Putzeys, and Lichtman. 2:30.-- for Chris, 2:30.+ for Seb...But we have to correct historian Josh about the SP throwers. David Bell threw 55'+" and Justin Williams threw 52'10". I remember both throws as does Mike Bower.

Hi Coach . . . we had this conversation when Conor Ebbs broke 50 and I put the list up but couldn't come up with a when and where for these two marks. Were they both indoors ? (I'll put them in regardless)

Incidentally, also looking for any verification of perhaps Marvin Chan breaking 50 as well . . .

Newton High/Newton North has had only 4 victories in the 1000 ever at the Class meet, and only one in the last 20 years (Aaron Schwirian in 2:34, 1998).

Outdoors he threw 50+ -
At Braintree Tuesday, May 8, the Tigers won 80-56. “The throws that day were very strong,” Smith said. Smith won the shot put with Chan in second with 51-5, a personal best.

Nothing came up for Williams.
