Results from 2011 MSTCA Elite Meet

Sunday's MSTCA Elite Meet was a small, high-caliber meet attended by some schools, skipped by others, and offering a chance for field event people to stay sharp with conference and division meets coming up.

Swardick Mayanja exceeded all expectations, winning the shot put with a massive PR of 56-2.5. That's the top throw in the state this season, two feet farther than the second best throw.

Carla Forbes was the other winner from North, as she led all long jumpers with a mark of 18-4. Three other Tigers places in the top ten: Kayla Wong (16-4.5), Amy Ren (16-3.75), and Kayla Prior (15-11.25)

Kayla Wong ran a PR 8.49 to take 2nd in the 55 hurdles. I believe that moves Ms. Wong ahead of Azuree Catledge on the all-time list, although I might be mistaken.

Justin Keefe ran a personal best 2:35.00 to take 2nd in the 1000. That time gives him the 13th best performance in the state this season.

Dan Ranti placed 5th in the 2 mile (10:16.73).

In the high jump, the Tigers had three girls in the top ten:

5 Hutchinson, Emily Newton North J5-02.00
7 Grigoli, Lucia Newton North 5-00.00
10 Ren, Amy Newton North J5-00.00

Both sprint medley teams ran great times but finished second. The girls trailed Newton South, while the boys were runners-up to Concord-Carlisle.

The girls 4x200 team placed 2nd in a scintillating 1:45.41. The boys 4x200 was 4th in 1:32.46.

The girls 4x800 team was 9th in 10:18.41.

I think Kayla Wong ran 8.47 in the 55H last week at the State Coaches Meet.
